Albuquerque Depression Center strives to ensure that you are receiving the best treatment possible for you. We offer many different types of therapy and our professional counselors will help you decide which option will suit you the most.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR is a highly effective treatment used for Individuals who experienced trauma which remains unresolved. The goal is to process distressing memories, reducing their effects, and allowing clients to develop healthier coping mechanisms. EMDR utilizes an 8 step protocol that includes having clients recall the event while receiving bilateral sensory input including side to side eye movements. In addition to its effectiveness in treating PTSD, it is also effective with other issues and with children.

EAP (Equine Assisted Psychotherapy)

EAP is a powerful, experiential therapy utilizing horses in the healing of emotional wounds and to facilitate personal growth and learning. EAP provides tools and skills to foster resiliency of people of all ages. The work consists of a partnership between the client, horse, therapist and Equine Specialist. Clients participate with the horses on the ground. The focus is on the relationship between the client, and the horse. Horses are powerful, dynamic, spiritual beings who have survived by their instincts. They live in the moment, and offer many lessons and metaphors for our own growth. Horses offer unconditional love, something that humans crave and by offering that, the animal can unlock a client's defenses and help gain their trust where a human counselor might not be able to accomplish this. EAP addresses a variety of mental/emotional health needs including Domestic Abuse, PTSD, Substance Abuse, Depression, Anxiety, Behavioral Issues, Relationship Problems and Communication needs.

Art & Sandtray Therapy

Art and sandtray therapy have been used for decades by psychotherapists as a tool to open the door to the unconscious mind. Sandtray Therapy is an expressive arts therapy involving tray(s) of sand along with a variety of miniature objects arranged on shelves. These objects are placed in the sand. The client(child to adult) creates their own world, shaping and forming their experience. The therapist is fully present with the client as he/she creates their world. Sandtray therapy stimulates creativity, problem solving, playfulness, and self-esteem as they develop an increased awareness and consciousness of their personal strengths and limitations. For those with traumas, sandtray offers a safe way to explore, express, and help resolve the trauma. Telling ones story is a natural part of this therapy and facilitates the expression of the unconscious in a visual form. A quiet, non-verbal activity such as sandplay or art therapy allows feelings to be felt, and is useful with clients who have difficulty verbalizing their feelings. This form of therapy is used people of all ages and abilities.
